Ace Of Blades Ottawa - Snow Removal Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
First of all all these reviews are paid for by competition lol.....every single review well thought out spell checked and the facts dont line up..... this company did snow for 6 years a d theres only complaints now? Lol seems like someome was becoming too successfull and the competitors couldnt take it so they made up these reviews. I had my driveway cleaned every time on time. When you advertise with the media they will publish any story even if its based on 1 or 2 peoples experiences. If you do your research ace of blades supports various initiatives in the ottawa community from sponsoring local sports teams to mental health and if it wasnt for the owner of this company those less fortunate individuals wouldnt have a chance.

Name Change for Ace of Blades

Drove past the owners house today. Van repainted. Tractor repainted. Now the name is "Central Snow"..Same outfit, same attitude I am sure as last year when they got dumped by the BBB, ended up with a CBC broadcast about them and an article in the Citizen. Same sleaze though. They will promise the world but mark my words they won't show up and you will be shovelling your driveway all by yourself! I wouldn't be suprised if the so-called president has changed his name as well. They also wanted all the money up front which the Better Business Bureau objecs to anyone doing that.

Ace Of Blades Ottawa - An interesting video about their snow removal business
I was sent this video and thought I'd link it here as it seems to be an appropriate place for it. You may have seen this type of 'news interview' before: they have been popular spoofs over the last few months. I feel for everyone who were affected by Ace of Blades bad business this winter. It is really too bad that they had to take advantage of so many people. Not only did they not show remorse or apologize for their horrible business, but they had the gall to lie to their clients, the media, and the public at large about why they weren't showing up.... The link can be found here: https://youtu.be/g6tqMZybXfY

Potentially fraudulent business! Beware!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We hired this company to clear the snow for a 15 unit row house. I was apprehensive because I read some bad reviews and their pricing seemed too good to be true, but after talking to the owner Grant and following up with some of his references, I thought I would give him a chance. He was very responsive until he had our money, but now he is not answering phone calls, emails or texts. As of today they have come to our property 1x for the entire season. They have not come to clear the storm that passed through Ottawa this weekend and now all of the tenants are dealing with potential damages to the undersides of their vehicles due to the layer of freezing rain that is covering the snow, not to mention the inconvenience of having to find another way to clear the large driveway. We have had to hand shovel the ridge at the entrance & exit left by the city plows. This is a huge driveway and is too big to shovel by hand. We are now going to have to look for another company to finish the season, as I do not expect Ace Of Blades to make good on their contract. We may also open a fraud investigation with the Ottawa Police. The BBB has an "ALERT" on their business so we are not the only clients that have been duped by this company. DO NOT USE!

We had the same issue with snow removal at our house in the Wellington West area. As soon as Ace of Blades had our money, they disappeared.

No snow removal done at all after this latest snow storm.

The city of Ottawa needs to pull their licence. We are out $350.

I was hoping there was just a glitch in service with the local manager for my area, or an employee not showing up or something. Over ten houses along Island Park Drive had the same problem, and by now many hundreds of drivers have noticed unplowed driveways between their signposts.

The company's phone message is still telling people how to obtain quotes and send in signed contracts!

No doubt if the company has gone under, it will emerge under some other corporate identity by the summer, so do let your dissatisfaction be known with the BBB or consumer websites. Owner's full name would be helpful.

36hrs after major snow no one in my area who got suckered into a contract with AceofBullshit has their snow cleared. no response from email or phone messages, and mailbox is usually full.

This company is a complete ripoff and should be charged with fraud.

Can't be charged with fraud if he did it 1 time this season that's the problem the police can't do anything this is a small claims matter

I'm not sure why you say that. I haven't personally done business with this company, but most have a contract that stipulates an amount of snow and a time frame (e.g.

after 5 cm accumulation, they have 12 hrs to remove). If he's only come once, that's in violation of the contract so far this winter and potentially fraud if he doesn't intend to fulfill the contract (i.e.

lying saying streets were closed or broken water mains when they weren't). Furthermore, as complaints regarding lack of snow removal (see BBB) date back to Nov/Dec **2013** any new clients he took on, and their subsequent contracts, are fraudulent bc there is a clear and distinct pattern that he either did not intend to fulfill the requirements of the contract (just not showing up) or was unable to (he may want to say he was overwhelmed - but that doesn't cut it when you've been "overwhelmed" since late 2013) and yet still actively sought out and signed on new clients.

Snowblowing fraudster

We signed up with this company (my neighbor and I) in the amount of $378.00 each. The first snowstorm he cleared the driveway at 3.00 a.m. After the next storm when it thawed and froze we could not get out of our driveways and we never saw him again. He was interviewed on CBC yesterday and of course the lies came poring out of him - street closures (there were none) and gas breaks (none). He cannot be reached at any time as the voice box is perpetually full and the e-mail bounces back. Very upsetting that this person is allowed to operate in this city and steal people's money.

The owner of "Ace of Blades" in Ottawa is Grant Van den Heuvel. He is the CEO, some job he does.

Nothing but grief, unable to communicate and many angry customers.

Some are taking him to small claims Court. NEVER deal with them, ever again.

Guest

Zac Jones President of this company is selling his house at 14 Eliza cres. stittsville on Kijjii looks like both of them are going to do a runner. CBC today has a story on a number of lawsuits filed against Ace from a number of ripped off customers.

Hi Sam

We are presently in the same situation. I filed a small claims court lawsuite.

Do you have any knowledge of where the owner Grant Van Den Heuvel lives?

It would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Fraud

Ace of blades took our money for the 2014 - **** season and showed up once. The last storm we had on January 2nd and 3rd - we had to shovel ourselves. The voicemails at Ace of Blades were full for two days after the storm and, when we were finally able to leave a message, the call was not returned. There is no service with Ace of Blades. They give legitimate snow removal services a bad name. Ace of Blades has no integrity or morality. They are thieves and fraudsters. We are proceeding to Small Claims Court this week. Beware of Ace of Blades!

I am going to the police. This Grant Van den Heuvel of Ace of Blades is a fraudster. He smooth talked us into signing a contract with his snow removal service and has not delivered. There are over 35 complaints about his business registered with the Better Business Bureau of Ottawa. I am also contacting various media to see if they will talk about this fraud. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing that I took money and did not perform according to the contract I signed. It doesn't seem to phase Mr. Van den Heuvel at all. This is going to stop.

Dont feel bad, they also steal from their workers.. I heard two workers got stolen over 6000$ and got abandonned by the owner on a road trip and they had to pay their own way back.

We have had the same problem with this company. What a scammer!

How can they get away with this? I am telling everyone I know to stay away from this business.

We are also considering taking him to small claims court.

Wow. Have been reading up on this company.....as a previous commenter suggested, contact the OPS Fraud Section.

The more people that file complaints the more likely he will be charged with fraud (as that appears to be what's happening), the stronger the case and hopefully he can be sued and your money refunded. Best of luck to you all!

Unreliable, unresponsive, cant contact them ... did not remove snow on weekend

we waited until 4pm yesturday .. originally told by grant that we would be near 1st on the list .. so disappointed se headed out to clean the mess ourselves. called numerous times without success. as well today i have tried at least 3 times to terminate our contract and be refunded but of course he is not answering. grant and i had a conversation about a mth ago as we had 3 neighbours give us a heads up about what an unreliable cmp they are. he vented a bit and said if u are not satisfied call me and i will reimburse your money. ok grant, how about just answering your phone. while clearing the snow yesterday ann ottawa citizen photographer stopped and said you people need help but what happened to ace of blades (signs up at the end of driveway) however not any longer. he asked permission to take phots and one was published in todays paper stating snow plow company never showed. disheartning when u put trust in someone. big mistake.

Classic Ripoff

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
On Sunday the 4th a dump of snow followed by freezing rain which we all know about Then a blast of cold. Ace of Blades? Vanished. His competitor did 6 driveways on our street by the late afternoon. Then at 11am the city plow came by. Mount Everest appeared. Now it is Tuesday. This guy is a real smooth talker. He and the lady of the season live just around the corner but she covers for him. I have three phone numbers but all mailboxes are full. E-mail bounces back. There are over 30 registered complaints with him at the Better Business Bureau. I have contacted the Ottawa Police and am getting a file number prior to going to small claims court. Also Hugh Adami at the Ottawa Citizen along with an opened file with the Ministry of Consumer Services. His partner is Zachary Jones. The other companies he has a hand in are Cloud IX and Jet Investments. Watch out for all of them. This guy is a classic swindler. We are $378. out of pocket. He should be looking for a bankruptcy lawyer.

Ace of Blades Ottawa - Once AGAIN I have to shovel my own driveway

Are there ANY reputable snow-removal companies operating in the civic hospital area of Ottawa? Up until this year, we had used Apple Seed who were terrible (they didn't show, didn't do the entire driveway when they did, unresponsive management). I made the huge mistake of signing up with GRANT VAN DEN HEUVEL and his company called "Ace of Blades". The only thing they are "ace" at is cashing your cheque. After giving them a cheque for $378, I have had to shovel my own driveway numerous times this winter. Yesterday (February 12th, 2015) was another example. It stopped snowing in the middle of the night - 18 hours later - after the roads were plowed and every other snow removal company was finished, the Ace of Blades still had not been around, their phone was not being answered and their email bounced. Once again I had to shovel my own driveway. People need to be warned that this company are unethical, incompetent and will not do what you paid them to do.

Work Experience Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
They hire honest people and screw them. Do not use them, do not get employed by them. They over charge and make their employes work 12 hours a day and then harass them for not making quotes even though it's only the companies fault for having a bad rep in the first place.

Morally unacceptable.

I recently met with one of the owners for an interview. Mr. Zachary Gal Jones. While the interview went well and Mr. Gal Jones came off as nothing short of professional, looks can be deceiving. I am a mild mannered professional myself looking for some part time seasonal work to fill out my otherwise quiet summer months. We discussed why Lou Reed would ever even consider making an album with Metallica, and what the difference really is between Smarties and M&M's. After some debate we concluded it was probably a lack of heroin, and a few quarters. At any rate, as I was leaving his office it dawned on me. I could never work for a man who has no regard for his customers after making his millions. Not returning phone calls, emails, of any formal complaint. A man with such disregard, he justify's paying the 50 cents more for M&M's. Not so Smartie sir, not so Smartie.

Ace of Blades took my money and left me with a pile of snow.

I hired Ace of Blades because I felt the owner, Grant Van Den Heuvel was an honest man with a dependable service to offer. He returned my phone calls (3 in total), within hours as I was deciding between his business and two others. Once I paid, the personal service stopped. After the first snowstorm, my driveway had only been done up the middle, leaving over a foot on each side and making it impossible to step out of my van without sinking up to my ankles. I called and spoke to some young man who was answering complaints. He apologized, said the driver had been fired and promised better service after that. The next storm came. At 7am I noticed that the back of my driveway had been quickly swiped on an angle (sides not done again) and a 2 1/2 foot wall of snow had been pushed up against the tires of my van. I called and got a recorded message saying that the messages were being received in "real time" and that the drivers would be notified. I called every half hour until 1 in the afternoon. I finally went out and, with help of some friends, dug myself out. While I was out, the complaint guy called and left a message saying he had tried to reach me but I wasn't there! I called back immediately and got the same recorded message. I made it very clear that I no longer wanted their services and wanted to be reimbursed. To make a long story short, I called over and over for a month and never heard back from Ace of Blades. I was able to flag down and speak to two different drivers. I wrote out a message explaining my inability to reach the owner and a request to be contacted. I never received a call. I even phoned the owner's house but got a "no longer in service" message. So I finally submitted a complaint to the Better Business Bureau. After months of trying to reach Ace of Blades the BBB closed the case as they could never reach anyone. I just recently submitted my complaint to CBC's Consumer Complaints. Hopefully someone will find this company and stop them from taking money from people without providing the service promised.

Completely useless.

After the first large snowstorm of the year they did not show up for multiple days. We called and the voicemail was full (obviously with complaints). They eventually cleared the driveway days later.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt we would typically wait a day to see if the snow is removed before doing it ourselves. As of this date, they have not come to remove the snow ever again and we have not heard back from them.

There are several articles online pointing at their utter ineptitude:

http://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/get-quotes-dont-pay-full-fee-when-hiring-snow-contractor-says-bbb

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/ace-of-blades-snow-removal-company-generates-some-complaints-1.289****

In these articles they lay out several excuses such as street closures or gas leaks, none of which actually existed.
